Women's rights
Women's rights
are key in helping to solve the worlds problems.
Human overpopulation
is mitigated through women's rights, it's easy to understand. Educated people are more valuable than uneducated people so it only makes sense to educate everyone, unless you're trying to exploit people.
I've been lookng for good organizations working for women's rights, but they're kinda hard to find.
There's;
Equality Now
Change.org
awid
MADRE
womensorganizations
NOW
Guns for hire
The
private military industry
is among the worlds fastest growing industries. Some estimates have it that there are an equal numbers of "
private contractors
" working in Iraq and Afghanistan as there are legitimate troops.
Mercenaries haven't always had the best PR, but they're
working to improve their image.
If you believe
Brooking's propaganda
they're a bunch of humanitarians.
They are acting as a huge talent drain from the worlds more traditional military. Private companies pay their soldiers-for-hire a lot more, after all, governments have already invested big bucks to train these men and the private security firms only spend a fraction for continued training. These mercenaries enjoy virtual impunity from law, but that is changing thanks to the efforts of Senator Al Franken with his
recent amendment
.
Perhaps one day we will have a truly democratic federation of nations and we could put these men to good use. Unfortunately, these men and companies are doing some questionable things. You can
check it out
for yourself.
We've been warned
Brooksley Born is now one of my heroes. She had the smarts to see the financial crisis coming and the balls to try to do something about it.
She tried to warn us.
She stood her ground as person of principle, against Greenspan and company, but it didn't do much good. When she first became aware of the problem of unregulated financial derivatives the figures were hard to acquire, but came in at an estimated thirty-trillion dollars. Not exactly chump change, but it pales to the present. Today there is an estimated six-hundred-trillion dollars in derivatives. Yeah, that's right, about
six-hundred-trillion dollars
of bogus investments floating around in the global financial markets.
To put this in perspective, the global GDP is about sixty-five trillion dollars.
I can't even begin to imagine the implications of this, but I'm guessing the trillion dollar bail-out by the US Federal Government amounts to a band-aid and is serving to buy a little time to help the powers that be to try to figure a way to rectify matters. Good luck.
Do we really want a
return to Depression Economics
? Not me. I do tend to trust those Nobel guys though.
But hey, it's only money. Considering the state of the world, it may just be a minor problem.
one billion starving people
More than one billion people are starving today.
It's one of those facts of life that is going to stick in my head. I'm not sure that I'll loose any sleep because of that, but I'm positive that I'll think about it when I lay my head down tonight.
How about you? How will it affect your psyche?
I read
The End of Poverty
, thought it was pretty good. I see that
The End of Poverty
is now a movie. I sure would like to view it.

USA is under seige
"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini.
If we accept Mussolini's interpretation, it is easy to perceive the United States as a fascist state with a veneer of democracy. This is why I support
a proposed 28th amendment to the constitution of the United States.
Recent events reveal just how bad the situation has become. The banking bailout, the attempt of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries to undermine health care reform that would benefit the citizenry and the wars in the Middle East for oil and unprecedented war profiteering by private "security" companies such as Blackwater and KBR all point to the deeper problem. Most egregious is the recent vote to the
Franken amendment.
The senators who voted NAY seem to be fascist traitors to the country they supposedly represent. The truth is that they represent corporate interests above the spirit of the constitution.
The above examples represent a slight scratch on the surface of circumstance and I urge all US citizens to educate themselves and others concerning the state of the union along with the history that has replaced democracy with fascism.
I also urge all those with an adequate understanding of these profound matters to
fly an inverted flag which is a symbol of distress or emergency.
I will soon return to this blog to add useful links supporting this theme.
